Vila Céu do Mapiá, founded in 1983, is the product of the community work undertaken since 1974 in the rural area of the city of Rio Branco, in the state of Acre, by a group of rubber tappers and rural workers motivated and united by the spiritual tradition of Santo Daime and organized under the leadership and inspiring presence of Sebastião Mota de Melo - "Padrinho Sebastião" (1920-1990).

The community was born with the objective of experiencing human and spiritual development in a new and fair system of community life, in harmony with and nourished by the forest, as an experimental alternative solution to the worsening environmental, social, economic and cultural crises of the time.

With time, this experience attracted people from many different places, enabling a rich social and cultural exchange. Currently, under the leadership of Madrinha Rita Gregório, Padrinho Alfredo Gregório de Melo and Padrinho Valdete Gregório de Melo, Céu do Mapiá has established a high level of social organization, with different groups and local organizations that together face the challenge of developing creative and sustainable solutions for improving the quality of life in the largest forest on the planet.
Vila Céu do Mapiá, world headquarters of ICEFLU - the Church of the Eclectic Center of the Universal Flowing Light, today has more than 600 inhabitants and also includes the nearby São Sebastião Ranch, a sister village located near the entrance of the Mapiá river.

COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE
Church, Casa de Feitio, Residents' Association, Casa de Estrela de Cura (Star Healing House), General Kitchen, Grain mill, State and Municipal Schools, Santa Casa de Cura, Municipal Health Center, Extractivist Agricultural Cooperative (COOPERAR), the Raimundo Irineu Serra Environmental Development Institute (IDARIS), Communication center and Radio Jagube, Library, House of Crafts, Center for Forest Medicine, the Lua Branca Center for Culture and Recreation, the Music Studio, Jardim da Natureza (Nature Garden), bakeries, snack bar, restaurant, hostels and commercial establishments.
RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION - AMVCM
The Vila Céu do Mapiá Residents Association - AMVCM, founded in 1987, is the legal representative and administrative center of Vila Céu do Mapiá. It is organized into three Councils and 12 Internal Groups. Padrinho Alfredo Gregório de Melo is the honorary president of AMVCM.
