Do I need vaccines? Which one?

It is recommended to take yellow fever vaccine and update anti-hepatitis B and tetanus. Note that most vaccines need to be taken several weeks before travel.

Is there drinking water in Mapiá?

Yes. Residences, inns and establishments in general have filter and offer filtered water.

Is there a bank or is it possible to use credit card in Céu do Mapiá?

No, in Céu do Mapiá there is no banking service or use of credit card. In Rio Branco, you can still find many banks options. In Boca do Acre there are Bradesco and Banco do Brasil banks. It is important to bring cash to the planned expenses, and some extra for eventualities.

What products (including food) can I buy in Mapiá?

There are some local shops that sells basic food, vegetables, meat, crackers, juice and yogurt. There isn't a variety of products. There are local products such as handicrafts and cosmetics, fardas and accessories, and maracas. There are no drugstores. Remember that prices in Mapiá are higher due to the high cost of transportation.

Are there places that offer meals in Mapiá? Is it necessary to purchase any food before going to the village?

There are places that offer snacks and meals in Mapiá, including vegetarian options. Basic food can be purchased at local shops. Take cash, and remember that the cost of products inside Mapiá is higher. Some families allow guests to use the kitchen. If you are staying with a family, or want to prepare your own meals, it is recommended to make a purchase at the supermarket of Rio Branco or Boca do Acre. Buy some basic products, such as rice, beans, pasta, oil etc., as well as products of your choice, avoiding perishable products (there is no refrigerator in the houses). Important: If you have dietary restrictions it is important to bring specific food from your diet.

What kind of unforeseen events can happen during the trip? Any precautions?

Traveling to the Amazon rainforest is an adventure, nature is intense and unpredictable. Be prepared to face as much sun as heavy rain, fallen branches or trees that can prevent the canoe from continuing (until it is removed), mosquitoes can also disturb. The road also presents challenges, such as unpaved parts - mud or a lot of dust, and unexpected holes.
